Metamorphosis: Small flies, big changes - Family Show
21 Albemarle Street , London, W1S 4BS
Description
From egg to adulthood, flies undertake a drastic change! Not just in their shape but also their behaviour and habitat.
In this talk, Erica McAlister will introduce the life cycle of a fly using examples from some of the 170,000 species that have been described to date. From the simple worm-like forms of the larvae to the all-seeing, all-flying adults, flies have evolved to be some of the most specialised and most extraordinary animals that we share our planet with. Different species have different specialisms throughout their life cycles – from eggs that can freeze to larvae that can desiccate, these really are the planetary explorers.
Come along to find out more about these winged creatures and also how learning more about the life cycles of flies is helping us understand our own.
