The Whispers of Rock: Stories from the Earth (£5 Donation)

21 Albemarle Street , London, W1S 4BS

This show is for over 13's only. ID may be required at the door.
Description

Listen carefully to the ground, can you hear the rocks speak? On the 'geological' surface, the question seems absurd. After all, rocks are lifeless, inert, and silent. In this talk, earth scientist Anjana Khatwa will ask us to open our ears, think again and listen to their stories.

Anjana will alternate between contemporary scientific consideration and ancient wisdom, taking us on an exhilarating journey through deep time. From the origins of the green pounamu that courses down New Zealand rivers, and the wonder of the bluestone megaliths of Stonehenge, to the fiery volcanoes of Hawai'i and Manhattan's bedrock of schist.

Through unearthing those stories and more, Khatwa will show how rocks have always spoken to us, and we humans to them. Delicately intertwining Indigenous stories of Earth’s creation with our scientific understanding of its development, she will showcase how our lives are intimately connected to time’s ancient storytellers.
