Originally from Algiers, Bouizzoul moved to Quebec at the age of eighteen, where he began performing as a street musician before forming Labess in 2007. Across their discography, Labess have explored the African and Roma roots of Latin American music. Labess’s work often reflects themes of exile, identity, and freedom, incorporating lyrics in Arabic, Spanish, and French.
